Jeremy Lin’s success is huge for NBA and NBA store. Lin’s jersey and tshirt has topped Derrick Rose’s Jersey on the NBA store. Other than that, eBAY just claimed on their first page that Jeremy Lin related searching phrase is ranked number 1 recently. Well, that is a money-making opportunity if you have a small tshirt making shop in China! The fact is that when NBA store online is updating there inventory everyday on J-Lin’s apparels, Taobao’s sellers have already copied some of the design and are making tons of sales!

One interesting thing to notice is that if you search on eBay for jeremy’s t-shirt, you will notice most of them are having the ” the jeremy lin show” and ” linsanity” design. I think these shirts does not have any thing do interfere with NBA’s copyright, so they are perfectly legal. It is also important to notice that most of them having the item location at Hong Kong. Why many cheap goods are from Hong Kong on eBay? For example, a Jeremy’s T-shirt only sells for 10 dollars with free shipping. Why? It is true! Because it sells for only 50 RMB(yuan) on Taobao, and Hong Kong Postal Service is the slowest but cheapest way to ship small goods to US.

It is time to talk about HP Touchpad and selling tips

Now you have many Hp Touchpad, how do you want to sell them online?

Last Sunday, I couldn’t sleep well. HP touchpad is on sell on last Friday night. and my wife told me that, but I was just saying that’s probably a older model they are trying to get rid of. But the result of not paying attention is disastrous! The next morning, I went to Bestbuy, and I was not the first 5, so I didn’t get a touchpad. I went to Staples, HH Gregg, Walmart… All of them are gone! My buddy running a very successful Taobao store selling goods to China is definitely more professional than me! He went all over the town on Saturday morning, and bought 7 of them. Then, keep the momentum up, I searched everywhere online, and called several ecommerce buddies. They gave me many tips. I bought several on HP small business, and I would receive calls at 2 a.m. some time because a buddy knows where online they have hp in stock!

here is the listview of my quest for HP Touchpads:

  • Saturday morning: Bestbuy, Wal-Mart, Staples, HH Gregg…
  • Online: HPDIRECT, Bestbuy, Amazon (onsale)
  • Monday online: Barnes and Noble, Seaboom, ebay, amazon

So pretty much, I ordered a lot of the touchpads! But couple days later, I get waves of emails notify me that my order has been cancelled? Should they give me some remedy? That’s not a very righteous practice for large ecommerce sites like amazon and Barnes and Noble!!! They charged the money on my card first, and then saying I can’t get them. Don’t charge me money if you don’t have them in stock. Now I really have negative impressions on B&N. I think It is just not the right way to do it.

 

Now all of my Hp orders are in limbo since I have not received one yet. HP direct was sending emails saying they confirmed the order. But what’s Next?

 

So, if you have plenty of touchpads, easiest way is to sell them for above 200 dollars on ebay! It is the cheapest and fastest way for you to make money. Selling on Amazon is a little bit more expensive. Selling to China on Taobao gurantees you to sell them, but you might not maximize your profit since Chinese are looking for the lowest price constantly. But the easiest way to sell them is via local such as craigslist.

We are definitely talking about another kind of drop shipping today!

now here is the proper definitions:

“Drop shipping is a supply chain management technique in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock, but instead transfers customer orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer.”

 

As I am selling well on Taobao.com, probably the world’s largest B2C, C2C platform in terms of traffics and population, I realized what I did is nothing but drop shipping. There are many students from China making a big fortune of drop shipping, but not the traditional way as the definition above says. The traditional drop shipping is ship wholesale goods to customers once retailers get the order. But the Taobao.com drop shipping is typically that people in the U.S. buy from US retailers and sell products to customers or sometime some businesses. The key is that those products are usually like cellphones and tablets that are not available yet in Chinese Market. The next big opportunity for sure, is iPhone 5.

 

So here, I vaguely pointed out several opportunities for different sellers. If you are a U.S seller selling well on eBay, Amazon, or your own stores. GO TO A.

If you are a U.S. sellers having sources to cheap items which you know are not available, and you want to be brave and sell them on Taobao. GO TO B.

If you are a U.S. sellers, a big seller! Your order is huge, then you better find manufacturers directly on places like alibaba.com

there are many, many similar sized websites offer drop shipping services. They all work in the same way as I have seen on their websites. The website of this kind is usually owned by a small team of under 10 people, and they build okay connections to manufacturers/wholesellers in China. (my experience with couple these website owners tells me) Basically, you just need to search for “china dropship service” and you will find many of these sites. You can either sell products in their catalogue, and they give you commisions or you can sell the item you customized, and ask the drop shipping service to make the items and ship them.

Usually if you have these resources, your only difficulty will be the language and culture. To sell online on Taobao is nothing like selling on Amazon and eBay. On Taobao, you have to really talk to the people, your buyers, and bargain the price. Chinese buyers/consumers are lovely. Once they trust you, they do not care about the price too much. Because every sellers online doing ecommerce is selling cheaper than the retailers.
